CAIR asks Presidential Canditates to Repudiate Anti-Islam Hate Rallies!!

CAIR CAIR Asks Presidential Candidates to Repudiate Anti-Islam Hate Rallies

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/5/15) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on all presidentia
l candidates to repudiate anti-Islam hate rallies by possibly armed anti-Muslim extremists targeting mosques nationwide this weekend.

CAIR also urged the candidates to take time out of their schedules on October 9 or 10 to visit a mosque in a show of moral support for the Muslim community at a time of increasing Islamophobia and anti-Muslim incidents.

On Sunday, CAIR issued an alert outlining safety measures community leaders should take in response to the planned hate rallies.

CAIR’s alert noted that organizers of the hate rallies “have indicated that participants in states with open carry laws may be armed and that provocations such as the use of live pigs and Quran desecrations may occur.” It also cited “the recent endorsement of Islamophobia by national public figures” as a particular concern.

“Because of recent statements by presidential candidates appearing to endorse Islamophobia and calling for the denial of American Muslims’ constitutional rights, we believe it is important that all candidates for the nation’s highest office publicly repudiate the planned anti-Islam hate rallies and consider visiting a mosque this weekend as a show of moral support for the Muslim community,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

Awad noted that CAIR recently called on Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump to clarify what he meant when stating that he was “going to be looking at that” to a question about the Muslim “problem in this country” and “When can we get rid of them?”

The Washington-based civil rights organization also announced the renewal of its “Share the Quran” campaign in response to Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson’s false claim that Islam is “inconsistent” with the Constitution and his bigoted belief that a Muslim should not be elected president.
